Launch of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Uganda - Report

Following the recommendation of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities that Uganda reviews all legislation to bring it into line with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) with support from the UN Office of the High Commissioner for human Rights (OHCHR) in Uganda engage d a consultant in July 2017 to assess compliance of selected national laws with the Convention on te Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The assessment was aimed at generating a report that would clearly identify laws and provisions that are inconsistent with the CRPD, and provide a baseline for the necessary legislative and policy reforms.

This consultancy was concluded, and the report will be launched with key stakeholders.

The launch of the report is an opportunity to for the stakeholder to identify and understand the gaps in the disability laws of Uganda, reflect and strategise on a way forward, including developing a roadmap on possible interventions towrads harmonising the laws on disability in Uganda with the CRPD.
